Jon Tarifa Park Pop Support

Not only is Jon Tarifa a very talented musician who expands his music and mind more and more with every track he makes, but he is also a friend and a big believer in what we are doing here at Rockstone Sessions

Jon did an acoustic track for Rockstone Sessions a few months ago which he wrote exclusively for us!

This track has quickly gone to be the 3rd most watched of all our videos on Rockstone Sessions and is constantly growing in popularity

This year Mr Tarifa is nominated for The ‘Road to Park Pop’ in The Hague. For those of you that don’t know what Park Pop is… shame on you!

Park pop is Europe’s largest free festival which has been graced by the likes of Robbie Williams, Sheryl Crow and The Bangles. Held every year at Zuider Park in The Hague.

Now our friend Jon Tarifa has the opportunity to take to that stage and perform his music on Park Pop’s MAIN stage before this years headliner (Blitz the Ambassador) to some of the hundreds and thousands of people that attend this the festival every year!

Jon is up against 5 other artists on the 30th of May at Paard Cafe which he has to beat to get to the final which will take place on june 16 at North Sea Jam in Scheveningen and be in with a chance to perform at Park Pop 2012.

Now we are urging you to come and support Jon on the 30th of May because half the points he can earn are based on the amount of noise the fans can make when he is performing!

We will be there with bells and whistles making us much noise as we possibly can, will you please join us and help Jon win Road to Park Pop 2012

Rockstone Sessions out and about with Shezar McKenzie

As some of you may already know, Rockstone Sessions has a Sister company called Rockstone CREATIVES who do music videos and corporate videos (check the site www.rockstonecreatives.com)

We were recently asked by the video boys from JUMP-WIDE to help produce a music video for Shezar, who is one of the 9 brothers and sisters from the Mckenzie Family, including award winning Music Producer Labrinth!

We shot Shezars first music video in a studio here in London and after the first days shoot, we all got on the Underground and at Camden Tube station when this man got on with his guitar.

Local musical legend… Daniel JeanReneaud

Daniel got on with his guitar and started rocking out a bit of Blue Suede Shoes by The King of Rock and Roll.

In no time, Shezar had recruited her self and her sisters as his backing vocals for Daniel in what seemed like a perfectly rehearsed acoustic set, but in reality they had even met Daniel before.

Here is a little taster of what we experienced on the tube that evening!

Unfortunately it was only filmed on my phone, but it definitely captured the atmosphere and talent!

Shezar is just about to be released to the world with her new track Forever but before that she will be stepping in front of our cameras for an Acoustic Rockstone Session.

Music producers…Rockstone Sessions needs YOU!!!

Rockstone Sessions has been going for a few months now with many exciting new artists and lots of support from people for what we do!

On that note, We would like to say … THANK YOU for your support!

We have recently been thinking of how we could get music producer to showcase their talents on Rockstone Sessions. Music producers are often forgotten about, so we want to make a change to that!

Say hello to our new show ‘Drop-A-Beat’!

Next to our Acoustic and Freestyle videos, we want to invite producers to show us what they can do with their skills for our camera!

We have a few criteria that you must fulfill to be eligible to be on ‘Drop-A-Beat

1- create an original bit of music

2- no longer than 6 minutes

3- build the beat live for our cameras

4- all in one take, no cuts, no edits, and no corrections in post

here is an example of what we are looking for

but you can also do it with samples on an MPC, like this guy

or you can go all out and do what this guy did!

or how ever else you think you can do an original track for us in one take.

Katy Perry – Ni**as In Paris Cover

Probably the last person (besides maybe Frank Sinatra or Michael Jackson) who we thought would do a cover of this song, but did she do a great job!
Surprisingly good flow and her awesome vocals combined to recreate this Kanye West and Jay-Z collaboration alongside a live band.

Chagall – If Only :: Rockstone Sesssion

Sometimes an artists diversity is what makes them so exciting, and that is exactly the case with this young Dutch lady. Chagall comes from Amsterdam and has taken this country by storm last summer with her first single Breathe and followed by her self titled first EP Chagall

We met Chagall at one of her gigs in the hague back in November where we arrived as she was still doing her sound check with her band. Fortunately we had to wait and do the filming after her show because we got to experience some awesome electronics sounds next to a live band with chagalls soulful voice! Half way through the show, Chagall swapped her microphone for some big drum sticks and got involved in a big solo with her band mates. Very unexpected, very cool!

After a million people wanted to talk to her and congratulate her, we finally got our time with Chagall and her band to record a Rockstone Session, in the kitchen of the venue.

Chagall performed her song Breath with her guitarist and then If Only with the rest of her band improvising with kitchen instruments and backing vocals.

This girl is a real music lover, she finds inspiration in all kinds of music and loves to experiment with music styles and techniques! Plus she is a big fan of Rockstone Sessions which makes us like her EVEN more!

Dry The River – Family Tree/Shaker Hymns :: Rockstone Sessions

Tattoo’, beards, acoustic guitars and a violin… All the ingredients to make a folk music sensation! That’s what the lads in Dry The River will be. Lead singer, Peter Liddle’s, voice is so hauntingly beautiful yet can fit in any rock band. This due to their background in hardcore and punk bands.

Dry The River have had a storming success since their first single was issued by Transgressive Records in March 2011 after significant early radio support from BBC Introducing, including their 2010 Glastonbury appearance on the BBC Introducing stage.

So passionate about their music and performances that Pete’s string snapped on his guitar while performing ‘Family Tree’ for us at Rockstone Sessions. Luckily for us, this was a chance for us to hear them do another song! This time they had to rearrange the band members and performed ‘Shaker Hymns’.

New Villager – Cocoon House :: Rockstone Sessions

From the moment we heard that the guys from New Villager were keen to do an acoustic Rockstone Session, we were very curious as to how it would sound. From their music that we heard online, we had no idea what to expect.

We met the guys, Ross, Ben, and Colin in The Hague with about 15 minutes to spare before they had to get on stage. As we introduced our selfs Ben quickly cut to the chase and said “follow me, I’ve found the perfect location to film this!” without even thinking we picked up our bags and tried to keep up with the extremely fast pace that Ben walk walking.

None of the boys carried any instruments, which confused us slightly but we just went along! Ben found a very narrow street and we started filming instantly as we had no time to waste.

What followed but very unexpected, but very cool and very different! Exactly what we love here at Rockstone Sessions. After a kind of mini meditation and a snap of the fingers, the guys kicked off an awesome Rockstone session.

Not only do these guys create very exciting new music,but they are artists too! They paint, and draw and create art exhibitions which they combine with their music! They combine to two for an all round experience for their audiences.

What’s really exciting about these guys is they have what they call a ‘Mythology’, a system which they use to understand how they create art and music. Very interesting stuff

James Vincent McMorrow – We Dont Eat :: Rockstone Sessions

We are actually getting fed up of filming outside with this contentiously dropping temperature, but for this man it was definitely worth it.

James Vincent McMorrow hit the scenes in 2010 with his album ‘Early in the morning’ and ever since then he has just been on the rise. Some of you may not even have heard of his name but if you watched any TV over Christmas then it you surely heard James’s cover of ‘Higher Love’ by Steve Winwood as the soundtrack to several Christmas TV commercials.

We met James at his hotel in Amsterdam, where he played ‘This old Dark Machine’ and “We Dont Eat’ for us in the park behind his hotel. James confidently said said he didn’t said that he is Irish and that this weather wasn’t cold for him, but by the second song he admitted he couldn’t really feel the strings on his guitar any more.

Admiral Fallow – Four Bulbs :: Rockstone Sessions

For a band that has 6 members each playing a different instrument, what we experienced was something completely different. One guitar and 6 voices, all harmonised in sync to create a beautiful song.

Admiral Fallow are a band from Scotland who have released their debut album in 2010 entitled ‘Boots Met My Face’. Lead singer and main writer Louis Abbott has said that “All of the songs document the first chapter of my life, be it memories from school or kicking a ball about with my childhood chums. All of the songs are taken from real life events. There’s no fiction. I’m not into making up stories or characters for the sake of trying to stir emotions. They are songs about friends and family as well as a fair bit of self-evaluation.”

Having been picked personally to open for Guillemots in Edinburgh and Glasgow, you know this band have a bright future ahead them!
Watch them perform an acoustic version of their single ‘Four Bulbs’ in front of the infamous M.C. Escher museum here in The Hague for us at Rockstone Sessions.

Bed Rugs – Evening Crusade :: Rockstone Sessions

It’s hard trying to focus on filming a band when one of the members is busy doing push ups and sit ups, on the floor, in front of his fellow band members while they are performing! Which is what happened to us when we met up with Bed Rugs.

Bed Rugs are an indie-rock band from Antwerp in Belgium who have recently released their debut album entitled ’8th Cloud’. We had the pleasure of filming them doing an acoustic version of their single ‘Evening Crusade’, with band member working out in the foreground and all!

He was set the task of having to do a work out if front of the camera while the rest of the band were performing their song but luckily for him they had to re-do the song and he was excused of having to do his push ups and sit ups. Instead, he joined up with the rest of the band and added a bit of his character to the video!
