Us plain mortals have always been obsessed with mere (semi)gods, nowadays known as ‘celebrities’. While we regular humans age, have 9 to 5 jobs and definitely never ‘wake up like that’ (#flawless), our fascination with the people we will most likely never come close to, isn’t that strange. Not only does the average Joe adore these famous heroes, even the stars themselves proof that they’re just ordinary people, by having their ordinary celebrity crushes. Surprisingly, that happens even more than you’d imagine.

Pharrel Williams – Marilyn Monroe

Oh, Marilyn. Even after all those years, you still know how to function as a role model for women as well as a phantasy for men. Salient detail: she’s popular under present-day stars, both Nicki Minaj and Jamie-T have a song called ‘Marilyn Monroe’.

Playground Zer0 – Sean

This tune is super catchy and may not really be about the first 007 per se, but the repetition of the name Sean Connery is evident. Not much to say, it just works. Sean, Sean, Sean, Sean, Sean, Sean, Connery!

Duck Sauce – Barbra Streisand

Apparently some names just work! American-Canadian dj-duo Duck Sauce must’ve figured out that a song on Barbra Streisand was bound to be a hit. Again, besides the ‘oohooh’-part, repetition of just the right syllables (in this case Barbra Streisand) proves to be sufficient for a major hit.

Maroon 5 ft. Christina Aguilera – Moves Like Jagger

Sometimes legendary artists have those typical features or actions that just need a song to underline it. Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilera boldly state that the face of The Rolling Stones, Mick Jagger, had some proper dance moves that could sweep every lady of her feet. Adam Levine impersonates the rock star in the video, but hey, there’s only one Jagger.

Jay-Z – Tom Ford

American fashion designer, director, producer and scenario writer Tom Ford gave Gucci the boost it needed when being on the edge of bankruptcy. Some successful Creative Director that is. We all know rappers these days are mere fashion icons, it’s no wonder Jay-Z devotes an entire song on the man. It must be the syllables, I mean rapping on ‘Gucci’, just doesn’t work. And if you didn’t try already in your head, please try now.

Fatboy Slim – Michael Jackson

This list of course isn’t complete without a reference to the late King of Pop, Michael Jackson. The troubled superstar that still knows how to rock our worlds. Also, Fatboy Slim still knows how to do so.

Gorillaz – Clint Eastwood

The track ‘Clint Eastwood’ is the first the British group Gorillaz released back in 2001. A very relaxed track which immediately turned into a minor hit. The beginning of the music video starts with vocals referencing to the epic ‘The Good, The Bad & The Ugly’, a movie in which – obviously – Clint Eastwood plays one of the leading roles.

David Bowie – Andy Warhol

Having your own song by one of the biggest music stars of all time, isn’t only for celebrities in fashion, music or cinematography. David Bowie serenades the rock star of modern day (pop)art, Andy Warhol. Supposedly, Andy Warhol didn’t even like the song as he thought the lyrics made fun of his physical appearance. When Bowie played it for him, Warhol and Bowie stared at each other for a while until Warhol said: “I like your shoes.” Remember that one next time you’re asked for your opinion.

Of course it doesn’t stop here, the list is practically endless. So here’s a little playlist (still not covering all songs there are on famous people) in which you’ll find even more tracks of celebs singing about celebs.
