Ah, the sweet world of procrastination: YouTube. It’s been both a blessing and a curse, but whatever it may be, the online video platform has been growing ever since the birth of it in 2005 (feel old yet?). Of course, every year there are a few videos that get watched most – although not yet as much as PSY with his Gangnam Style. Rockstone Sessions sorted out some of the best viewed musical videos of 2015. I would say: check them out! But you’ve probably already did.
Wiz Khalifa ft. Charlie Puth – See You Again
1,235,533,441
The soundtrack for the 2015 action film Furious 7 pays hommage to the late Paul Walker. He died in a car accident in November 2013 while the movie wasn’t finished. His brother stepped in and so they could complete the film. This song was released in March of this year and immediately rose to become number one in many countries. Also, the videoclip is the most viewed one on YouTube this year.
Maroon 5 – Sugar
916,543,621
As you have probably seen already, Maroon 5 touches upon the romantic souls in this video. Newlyweds are surprised with an unannounced performance by one of the biggest bands of the 00’s and all go mental. Well, the ladies in particular. With this sweet music video for their song ‘Sugar’, Maroon 5 hit the right spot.
Major Lazer ft. MØ – Lean On
889,746,572
This must’ve (and still is) been the anthem of 2015. Major Lazer hit the right spot and ‘Lean On’ was not only one of the tracks played most on the radio, it’s also the song that’s shazammed most. I don’t know about you, but this track still gets me up on my feet!
Ellie Goulding – Love Me Like You Do
850,705,668
Ah, how the hearts of half the female population skipped a beat when their (secretely) beloved book ’50 Shades of Grey’ appeared on screen in the cinemas. Yours truly is also guilty of caving in and probably responsible for at least a 100 views of this video, but isn’t this track is kind of sexy? At least 8 million others thought so…
Silento – Watch Me Whip (Watch Me Nae Nae)
469,028,049
Don’t you tell us you never tried to recreate this dance in front of the mirror in the safe environment of your home! How annoying the high, squeaking voice of Silento may be, he got at least 4 million people trying to whip and nae nae. It’s a thing!
Justin Bieber – What Do You Mean
429,804,988
Whoever is not a Belieber by now must’ve had earplugs in. This formerly known little brat with the high pitched boyish voice and the attitude problem is killing it! Seriously, his last album Purpose finally proved he ís a musician that deserves respect. Also, probably all guys can relate to this track. It’s a question to women around the world, but moreover just one of his many awesome tracks.
Lip Sync Will Ferrel & Kevin Hart
54,617,475
Enough for the mainstream pop songs, now over to some clips that got watched a lot, albeit not over a hundred million times. Nevertheless, they are more or less music related and very funny to watch. Starting off with a lip sync battle between Will Ferrel, Kevin Hart and Jimmy Fallon in The Tonight show. No words, just watch.
Dover Police Shake it Off
37,937,673
The things you do in your car when you think nobody’s watching… Not sure if this policeman really thought he had the privacy to let go and lip sync Taylor Swift’s ‘Shake it Off’ (a guilty pleasure of at least a billion people!), but he sure is convincing when he puts on his poker face whenever he passes other people.
