Aye, in the recent light of events of the International Women’s Day two weeks ago on the 8th of March, I want to salute some ladies out there that deserve some recognition and much love. We already know those “we run the world” type of artists – but this is for those other female artists that create a whole other feeling when listening to their music. On the other hand we can obviously say that ladies like Nina Simone, Erykah Badu, Janis Joplin and Lauryn Hill were mayor leading female creating a path for future thinkers, poet, writers and thought-provoking individuals. So this is for the girls like me who had these artists on replay and is seeking their influence in modern day music.

As I’m writing this I have way too many queens in my head, but I will keep it short and in the top five. Spring seems to be finally around to sway our mood in the right place so why not walk down the street feeling great and listen to the TREAT YO’SELF female playlist edition.

1. Fatima

She’s from the Eglo records family, has worked with artists such as Floating point, Flako and Scoop DeVille. For me her sound is a combination of Neo- soul and hints of experimental electronic. The songs picked are from her old album “Yellow Memories” that one Album of the Year at the Worldwide Awards from Gilles Peterson.

Biggest Joke Of All

Ridin’ Round (sky high)

2. Low Leaf

With her beauty, her harp and her voice, Low leaf creates a over this world sound of majestic beauty.

As one

Set Me Free

3. Calma Carmona

Nothing much to mention about this fine talent that you can’t hear it yourself. This artist has a latin soul vibe that has been influenced by greats such as Sade.

When I Was Your Girl

Save Me

4. Santigold

I think Santigold really doesn’t need any introduction. Since it’s been already quite a few years since her last album came out, we have to give her some spotlight for her album called 99c that was released in the end of February of 2016. Also, a fun little note, if you visit her website it’s quiet an entertaining source of promotion for her new album.

Chasing Shadows

Who Be Lovin’ Me

5. Demea aka. Bubblerap

This lady here caught my attention as ⅓ of the Hawk House Group. Hawk House alone should get their own article written to show how amazing they are. But since this is the Treat Yo’self female edition we will focus on the female element of Hawk House aka. Demea aka. Bubblerap. Her soulful voice and smooth energy balance the members of Hawk House. On her own, she has released a few covers and freestyles of her own.
