More electronic sounds and effects do not necessarily make a song better. As a matter of fact, sometimes the message and lyrics of a song make more sense when performed acoustic. And since acoustic sessions happen to be our specialty at Rockstone, we put together this list of awesome acoustic covers that actually rival the originals!
1. Not The Only One – Third Story
While casually performing in a garden, these four guys add some flawlessness to the song that the original by Sam Smith doesn’t have.
2. 99 problems – Hugo
The original breathes more this gangster vibe, while the cover is performed in some sort of Mumford and Sons-style with the banjo. It almost seems like Hugo wrote it himself.
3. Lonely Boy – Eva and Manu
Although the video of Black Key’s Lonely Boy, still wins the video competition, Eva and Manu put the lyrics and guitar together in such a subtle way, that all this cover automatically draws the attention to the lyrics of the song.
4. Girls Just Wanna Have Fun – Chase Holfelder
This might be the biggest change ever heard in a cover of a pop song. While the original, performed by Cyndi Lauper, is a song about the role model of woman in society, written from a feministic perspective. These bold girls just want to have, empty and shallow fun. But the cover draws the attention more on lines like: “The phone rings in the middle of the night, her father yells ‘what you’re gonna do with your life”, puts the song into a whole different, darker, perspective.
5. Billy Jean – Obadiah Parker
Although this cover makes you feel like doing Michael Jacksons’ ‘Hiiihii’ yourself, this version almost makes you forget that this is actually someone else his story and Obadiah Parker is definitely not the father of Billy Jean’s son. No doubt about it.
