Rockstone Sessions will be at Lowlands Festival this year (August 21, 22, 23) and when checking out the line-up little cheers were filling the room: “Oooh! Kendrick Lamar!” “Omg, Years & Years!”, “We should definitely check out Sango and Mura Masa guys!”. Well, you probably know the drill of pre-festival excitement. But there was some pre-festival dancing as well. Yes, you read it, we danced. Not just any dance. We did the Migraine Skank. Amongst others, that is. And that’s the moment we thought everybody should have their movement-act together. Get your dances straight and practise. Here’s how to dance to each artist.

Baauer – Sunday, Bravo, 02:00

Baauer will be teamed up with Boys Noize, so that’s a guaranteed heavy bass, electronic party. I don’t really want to do this, but while we’re at typical dances anyway, I kind of have to: the Harlem Shake. Most of you will remember this, if not, then either you blocked it out of your memory (which is understandable) or you’ve been living under a rock. If so, time to get out! Sun’s shining, do a dance. By the way, the guy in the tutorial is pretty serious about this, but just shake it off.

Major Lazer – Sunday, Alpha, 21:45

There’s no denying: Major Lazer loves butts. Who doesn’t, really? So ladies, start squatting or continue doing it. Shape up, follow this easy tutorial and be amazed by the insane video for ‘Bubble Butt’. This is now part of your dance goals, so you better know how to (t)werk it.

Skepta – Sunday, X-Ray, 22:10

There it is. The infamous Migraine Skank. It’s fairly easy, actually. And fits Skepta’s music perfectly. Find your own rythem, know the difference between right and left, and you’re good to go. If you follow the explanation and moves of the dude in the shiny, blue jacket, you’ll be a pro in no time.

Mumdance – Friday, X-Ray, 02:20

No tutorial here, just check the above one. Mumdance is another grime genius, so grab your posse, your swag and your fresh Migraine Skank moves and head over X-Ray on Friday. They say practise makes perfect, so try your moves here before killing it on Sunday when you check out Skepta. Although, a little bit of freestyle is needed here, since the music of Mumdance is a mixture of UK’s finest styles.

Kendrick Lamar – Sunday, Alpha, 19:45

His last album How to Pimp a Butterfly was insanely well received amongst listeners. And you can’t blame the people for loving this rapper. Besides the fact that his music is great, his raps are on point and his beat always sick, this guy has some serious moves. There are loads of gif’s on his dance in his video ‘I’. Watch, try it and show off next week.

La Sra. Tomasa – Friday, Lima, 21:00

So, wasn’t too sure on adding this one, since it’s a trippy fusion of salsa and drum ’n bass, but then – when trying – we just figured you have to add a little more fuel and step up. Raise the tempo and you’ll be good to go! Get your basics right though. There’s nothing more unsexy, than a person (wether guy or female) dancing off beat because they’re trying to hard. So work on your salsa ’n bass moves.

Mefjus – Friday, India, 00:45

So if you’re, for whatever reason possible, fan of Drum and Bass, try this. Or don’t. I mean, well, do what you like, we probably won’t be there to watch it. But to give you a head start on all other lovers of this impossible music genre, here’s a special dance.

Joey Bada$$ – Sunday, Bravo, 16:00

By now you must’ve had enough dance input. There’s only so much a person can remember and take in. So just start practising and when you’re done and feel like you’re ready to take on three days of Lowlands, kick back and relax. Listen to Joey Bada$$ to chill out. You can do the same on the festival and you should. This Hip Hop artist from the east coast is a must-see.
