Meta Dia was born in Senegal, West Africa, where he got most of his musical influences including Bob Marley’s songs played by his mom in the kitchen. By age 14 was Meta Dia was performing on the streets of Dakar, rapping conscious lyrics in Wolof and Fulani. When he moved to New York City at age 20, he learned English and got more and more interested in making reggae music, transmitting ‘Peace, Love and Harmony’. He soon formed the band Meta & The Cornerstones and their first album ‘Forward Music’ was launched in 2008. The album includes hit songs ‘Somewhere in Africa’ and ‘Cornerstone’.
Having performed with some of the greatest in reggae music, Meta & The Cornerstones recoded their second album in the legendary Tuff Gong Studio in Kingston, Jamaica. Signed as the first African artist by VP Records, Meta & The Cornerstones will release their sophomore album ‘Ancient Power’ on April 30, 2013 featuring U-Roy, Capleton and Damian ‘Jr Gong’ Marley.
