By now, Belgian rapper Porto might seem like a familiar face to the keen observer, having previously featured in the first installment of Rockstone’s Suited Cypher alongside Dutch rappers Spinal, Rogero and Kain Slim. His affiliation with notable Dutch rappers doesn’t stop there though; having opened for the likes of Fresku, Hef and ‘The Next MC’ winner D-Double, it would seem the Belgian rapper has been building up a considerable fan base here in The Netherlands. The picture is very much the same back home, where Porto gained considerable exposure following the performance of a five-song set on radio MNM’s hip-hop programme ‘UrbaNice’.
Rockstone Sessions met up with the Belgian rapper on a visit to Brussels, where he performed an acoustic, stripped-down version of ‘Droog Verdriet’; a tune online hip-hop platform Puna.nl was quick to pick up on following its original release. With nothing but a guitar to back him up, this performance provided a fresh new take on the contrasting, beat-driven original. And let’s be frank, it doesn’t get much more honest than that. They also did a beautiful version of ‘Berouw’.
