Say whatever, but Drake is slowly but surely conquering the world. He knows a tune when he listens to it. No wonder the r&b talent(s) under the name of DVSN is/are signed at Drake’s OVO Sound recordlabel. Thing is, nobody really knows who’s behind this r&b sensation, except we now know that there’s at least one male vocalist, whose voice is mesmerizing. I’ve always been a huge fan of the slowjam, but this is the best of cheesy nineties sounds combined with modern day influences. ‘The Line‘ got a extremely popular online and DVSN’s tribute to Martin Gaye’s ‘Get it On’ is an absolute banger.

Some say that at least producer Nineteen85 is behind the project, together with a mysterious r&b singer that makes you shiver and ‘tingly’ at the same time. There’s a lot of r&b going on these days, but this is next level. Anyways, even a surprise performance at The FADER FORT at SXSW didn’t wholly clarify things either. There was a singer, a female DJ, and a backing gospel enveloped in thick purple smoke. I’ve been playing the few tracks that were released late 2015 on repeat and ever since the album SEPT 5TH dropped the end of March, I’m hooked. The first track lasts a whopping seven minutes, but never gets boring. To be totally honest, I don’t care if DVSN remains a mystery, as long as he/she/they keep on making this music!
