Lowlands is one of Holland’s biggest music festivals. No wonder, because it’s not only a three day fest full of the best music of the moment, there are loads of cultural activities, parties, and even theatre performances. Another charme is the great variety of musicians performing at Lowlands. From the greats such as Muse, Sum 41, Foals, and Disclosure, to beginning artists on the verge of a break through. For the upcoming edition (19 – 20 August) Rockstone Sessions obviously has some favourites, which we would very much like to share with you. Some more known than others, but worth a visit if you’re going. Not going? These are definitely worth a listen!

This Hip Hop artist from Belgium has already been compared to some modern Hip Hop icons, such as Kendrick Lamar. His lyrics are sharp as a knife and his beats very addictive. Who says proper Hip Hop needs to be American? Woodie Smalls is one to keep an eye on!
Sunday, X-Ray, 18:30
While we’re discussing young Hip Hop artists anyway, Mick Jenkins is just killing it! His track ‘Jazz’ is a banger and we can’t wait to check this guy out live. He’s been busy as an artist since 2012, but got significant attention after releasing his single ‘Martyrs’; hiding critical messages that typify his style. His EP Wave[s] (2015) is about to be followed up by his highly anticipated debut album [T]he [H]ealing [C]omponent, so we hope to hear some of that at the festival!
Saturday, Charlie, 14:15
We already discussed this band when writing about another Dutch festival called Down the Rabbit Hole, describing the band as the perfect band for your Sunday afternoon chill vibes. Like Iron & Wine, but different. Loving the feels they release with their music, we had to re-recommend you this one!

If you keep an eye on our website, it can’t have escaped your attention that we absolutely loved KAYTRANADA’s album 99,9%. This young producer is the mastermind behind many great dj-sets, productions, and remixes, while proving he can make an amazing solo album as well. If this isn’t going to be an amazing show, then I don’t what is.

Known from Mura Masa’s most popular tune ‘Firefly’, this London based artist describes her music as ‘Wonky funk’. Meaning it’s a mix between R&B, electronic music and funk. She also featured on Disclosure’s ‘Superego’ and is gaining more popularity with every tracks she releases.
Saturday, X-Ray, 19:30
Winning ‘Best Newcomer’ at the MOBO Awards in 2015, Section Boyz got recognition for their witty tracks. The collective from South London give you Hip Hop with a pinch of Grime. A genre that is taking over the scene right now. So expect raw, uncensored tunes to bounce your head to!
Friday, Lima, 17:15
Also known as Isobel Beardshaw, this high pitched singer songwriter from London (we can honestly state by now that great music originates in London) starred in the H&M commercial with her track ‘Sweat’, concurring the hearts of many music lovers. Expect poppy up beat tunes that brighten the mood.
Friday, Bravo, 15:15
He released the smooth track called ‘White Iverson’ and has been dominating the scene of slick R&B ever since. Working with Justin Bieber, Kanye West, Jeremih, Jazz Cartier, and many more, this guy is the king amongst the kings of bedroom jams. And even though he announced wanting to do Country again, we hope he keeps doing what he does best right now.
Sunday, India, 16:15
Alternative R&B at its best! Obviously, this band isn’t unknown anymore, but their funky beats are so contagious, we can’t not recommend The Internet!
Friday, Heineken, 17:15
Formed in 2010, this Hip Hop formation has been around for quite a while. Hip Hop lovers around the world are well known with the group, that has been working with big artists such as Action Bronson, A$AP Mob, Joey Bada$$, and RZA. If you’re not, then you’re in for a treat! Either way, this should be on your ‘to see’-list or your playlist!
Friday, Hacienda, 20:45
I don’t know about you guys, but ten (!) years ago ‘So Good’ was my ultimate feel good tune. No wonder I got excited seeing Ben Westbeech in the Lowlands line-up. For all I know, he’s not a popular superstar known by a big audience – although he’s been around for quite some time – but he should! He’s like summer in music!
Sunday, Charlie, 14:15
Speaking about happy music, the eccentric Garrett Borns is your ultimate go to when you need to kickstart your day with some positive energy. BØRNS’ album title was Dopamine (the happy hormone) so you can guess that he’s all about the good vibes!
