There’s always a subtle sweetness to boy-girl duo’s in the world of music. It might be because such a balance often turns out to be quite a complementary one; but then again, we might just be over analyzing it all. The simple fact is that musical talent often travels in two’s, a notion Belgian band Hydrogen Sea certainly stands testament to. Known for merging both acoustic and electronic elements into one beautiful, airy blend, multi-instrumentalist PJ Seaux and vocalist Birsen Uçar have been crafting beautiful tunes for a while now; eventually culminating in the recent release of their latest EP ‘Court The Dark’. The incorporation of such electronic elements into the band’s music quite possibly stems from band member PJ Seaux’s fascination with electronic music giants Massive Attack, an admission he previously spoke of in an interview with Belgian website Enola.
The session we did with Hydrogen Sea proves, however, that the band’s music is equally captivating stripped down to its core. Their beautiful rendition of ‘The Fall’ certainly had us believing some of that stereotypical sweetness might in fact be true. One thing that is for sure though, is that many of Hydrogen Sea’s space-inspired sound waves are a welcome addition to life on planet Earth; a statement the surrounding birds certainly seemed to agree with.
