The The Hague based trio Frank van der Steen (Ki), Guus van der Steen (Ahab) and Tom Giles (TommyTwee) have been working with the motto “All For Art” ever since they united themselves as Kern Koppen. This mindset, combined with their musical experience, exceptional talent and the courage to think outside of the box makes their work both extraordinary and outstanding. Being influenced by a wide range of artists such as The Roots, John Mayer and William Shakespeare, it’s almost impossible to define their musical genre. It is definitely hiphop, but styles as jazz and African music, are significantly represented as well. A quite unique repertoire that is always delivered in an energetic, emotional and abstract way. Apart from this, there are two more features that make their entire oeuvre a true arty experience: lyrical poetry and perfectly designed music videos. The band’s recently finished project De Vier Seizoenen (The Four Seasons) is no exception.
De Vier Seizoenen consists of four different EP’s, each inspired by the particular colour and sound of a different season. The last one, called Winter Slaap, is already available since February 2014. However, the project actually just finished last week with the release of the music video for ‘Donderwolk’. At Rockstone we already loved the song and from the moment it’s being accompanied by the amazing clip we consider it a true piece of art. Frank van der Steen created it himself and apparently it took him fourteen months. Check it out below and you’ll definitely understand why!
