Every country from the equator and up is feeling the chilling northerns winds sending chills down our spines, while putting on gloves, scarves and hats when going outside. Winter is definitely arriving in quick pace and I can speak for many that 2016 has left us in the cold. So what better way than to resort to music? Even though many great musicians passed away (again, thanks 2016), the knowledge that there’s always new, promising music ahead is comforting. Therefore, a list of upcoming albums that will keep you warm and happy during darker days.
A Tribe Called Quest – We Got it From Here… Thank You 4 Your Service
11/11
Already out for a few days, A Tribe Called Quest surely delivers on their latest album. It consists of two parts and is a suitable pick for the repeat button.
Bruno Mars – 24K Magic
18/11/2016
From the man that gave you the most funky, upbeat pop songs ever, comes a new album (finally) on which you can expect some typical Bruno Mars tracks. He already delivered the insanely catchy ’24K Magic’, while recently releasing the more ‘Howling to the Moon’ kind of track ‘ Versace on the Floor’. Displaying yet again, that this guy can go from Pop to Ballad in a split second.
Justice – Woman
18/11
Justice always manages to surprise, Dropping tracks that have huge hit potential and catchy lyrics (are you mumbling ‘D.A.N.C.E.’ right now? I know I am) to the more experimental electronic vibe we heard in the newest release ‘Alakazam!’. Can’t wait to be surprised!
The Weeknd – Starboy
25/11/2016
The latest releases by The Weeknd are very different. His collabration with Daft Punk on ‘Starboy’ proved to be a huge hit, while his latest release ‘False Alarm’ – even though being kinda catchy – didn’t bust the charts. Not a problem of course, but this also promises a broad spectrum of musical styles on his next album. Besides, he announced another collaboration with Daft Punk and if that’s as catchy as ‘Starboy’, then yes to that please!
Childish Gambino – Awaken, My Love!
02/12/2016
FINALLY! After quite some time (time reference: Kauai was released in 2014) Childish Gambino is back! At least the ‘break’ had a good reason, his serie Atlanta is great, so we don’t blame him. But we’re more than happy about the new upcoming album. His latest release ‘Me and Your Mama’ is a next level sound on which Donald Glover abandons rap for an impressive, intense vocal approach.
The xx – I See You
13/01/2017
More musicians that kept us waiting for far too long. Upon releasing the catchy track ‘On Hold’, we hear the great – although slightly less mellow than before – The xx sound we all came to love. Not sure if we should expect more of this type of music, or if The xx is going to experiment more. Either way, it will be soothing enough to get you through those sober January days.
Bonobo – Migration
13/01/2017
Talking about music that soothes you, on the same day as The xx the mastermind behind mellow electronic beats, Bonobo (Simon Green) is releasing his album called Migration. ‘Kerala’ is the first sneak preview of this upcoming album and does not disappoint. On Migration he works with several artists like Michael Milosh (Rhye), Nick Murphy (fka Chet Faker), Nicole Miglis (from the band Hundred Waters) and the Moroccan bnd Innov Gnawa.
