With their beginnings firmly rooted in The Hague’s surf- and skate scene, local ska/hip-hop/surf/reggae/pop band Piñata has been successfully spreading their summery vibes for a while now; having entertained Dutch, Spanish and French audiences alike, the potential of the band’s up-beat musical endeavors seems to be virtually limitless. If their concert agenda doesn’t convince you of that (having played over 40 shows in the summer season alone), the backing of American reggae/ska/punk band Jaya The Cat certainly should, having had the band open for them at several Dutch shows in the past. One festival they hadn’t played though, is Parkpop, where we decided to ask the band a few questions on their first visit to the festival. And if there’s one thing everybody knows about piñatas, it’s that they’re always full of some pretty sweet stuff that’s just dying to come out; we’re just happy we didn’t need a baseball bat…
