Summer is already half way gone, but the festival agenda is still full of festivals worth visiting! So to let summer down easy, here are five of the best upcoming festivals in Europe. A perfect excuse to take another mini-music-holiday!
By: Layla Bil
Where: West Yorkshire, Braham Parc
When: 28,29&30 August
Official website: http://www.leedsfestival.com/
The Leeds festival in West Yorkshire is infamous among locals from the UK. It’s not a coincidence that the slogan of the festival is ‘Leeds festival; That is where memories are made” The festival presents a very impressing line-up. Deadmau5, Jamie T, Alt-J, Limp Bizkit and more. But there is also a lot of space for upcoming artists like Kwabs, Years&Years and All We Are. If you love music festivals, the Leeds festival is for sure one that you should visit at least once in your life.
Where: Germany Berlin, Flughafen Tempelhof
When: 12,13 September 2015
Official website: http://www.lollapaloozade.com/festival/
After Lollapalooza Chile, Brasil and Argentina, Lollapalooza Berlin, is the first time that the festival will take place on European ground. And what kind of ground! The former airport of Berlin, Flughafen Tempelhof will host the Lollapalooza festival. With Muse, James Bay, Crystal Fighters and Robin Schulz in the line-up, it makes you want to buy your tickets right a way.
Into the Great Wide Open
Where: Vlieland, The Netherlands
When: 4,5 & 6 September
Official website: http://www.intothegreatwideopen.nl/
This festival has by far the best combination of name and location. When you are on the island of Vlieland you literally feel like you are into the great wide open. The artists aren’t bound to a stage in the traditional way, but they also play acoustic sets in the dunes or on the beach. Into the Great Wide Open is not only a music festival but there are also art-routes that lead you across the whole island.
And the best thing is you can walk barefoot almost everywhere and if you want to ‘escape’ from the festival programme, you can enjoy a dive in the sea!
Gibraltar Music Festival
Where: Gibraltar, Spain
When: 5&6 September
Official website: http://www.gibraltarmusicfestival.com/tickets-and-packages/
Nothing kills the festival mood like a weekend when it’s raining cats and dogs. On the Gibraltar Music Festival in Spain you most definitely won’t come across any of that undesirable water from the sky. The only water you will see or feel is the sea, close to the festival area, for a quick refreshing dip. The location of the festival is perfect to dance the night away with Duran Duran, Kings of Leon and Kaiser Chief’s. The festival maintains a safe line-up, but who knows? You might rediscover your favourite song!
Where: Reykjavik, Iceland
When: 4- 8 November 2015
Official website: http://icelandairwaves.is/
If you have never been to Iceland, then this festival is the perfect excuse to do so! If you are into wavy floating shoegaze sounds, the line-up (Låpsly, Björk, Aurora) will put a smile on your face. The first edition in 1999 was held in an airplane hangar and from that moment on the festival is known to be a showcase of Icelandic- and other new music!
