After years of waiting and countless reasons for delaying our chance to hear it, Frank Ocean has finally released ‘Blonde’, his newest work of art!
They say good things come to those who wait (not that we had much of a choice) but good things have definitely come our way. Since his critically acclaimed ‘Channel Orange’ in 2012, Ocean has taken 4 years to supply us with new material. After releasing his visual album ‘Endless’ on Thursday (which was directed by Francisco Soriano), the first single and music video ‘Nikes’ on Friday, he finally dropped what everyone was waiting for on Saturday…
‘Blonde’ features 17 tracks on the digital copy and 12 tracks on the physical copy. Alongside the release of the album, a 360-page magazine was released and given to every customer at the pop-up stores in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and London.
To the surprise of those lucky recipients of the magazine, a physical copy of the album was hidden within the magazine.
As those who own a copy of the magazine can testify, the track list on the physical album is different to the one on the digital copy released on Apple Music.
The physical album has 5 tracks omitted such as; “Self Control,” “Good Guy,” “Facebook Story,” “Close to You,” and his first release “Nike”.
Another glance at the magazine and the credits show a long list of enormous artists! David Bowie, Kanye West, Jamie xx, Kendrick Lamar, Beyoncé, the Beatles, André 3000, Brian Eno, Pharrell and Elliott Smith make up just a fraction of artists he acknowledged for their help and contribution towards ‘Blonde’.
Originally entitled ‘Boys Don’t Cry’ and originally meant to be released in July 2015, Frank (we’re on first name basis now) has made us wait quite a while. Currently listening to the album as I write this article, and I can tell you… It’s been worth the wait.
Just promise us you won’t wait so long next time you decide to drop something Frank… but in the meantime, we’ll enjoy this piece of art.
