Ryan McMullan’s talent is a rare jewel in the crown of the current popular music scene. With a voice raw with story telling and filled with rich and varied tones, Ryan’s got a fantastic ability to communicate story and emotion. Home to the likes of Foy Vance and Iain Archer, Northern Ireland is and always has been a hub of song writing talent. Ryan McMullan is no exception.
Hailing from Portaferry, a small seaside town in Northern Ireland, the 25 year old is a fresh new talent on the singer/songwriter scene. With a voice reminiscent of Paolo Nutini and early Tom Waits, Ryan has been putting in the necessary graft in local pubs for a number of years. With hugely successful recent support shows with Foy Vance, American alt-country rockers NEEDTOBREATHE and of course, the biggest pop star on the planet right now, Ed Sheeran during his divide tour, Ryan is fast gaining a reputation as an exciting talent.
As well as catching Ed Sheeran’s attention, several other notable artists have given Ryan their support, such as Gary Lightbody (lead singer of Snow Patrol) who said “One of the most exciting artists to come out of Northern Ireland, voice of an angel”.
You must be doing something right if both Ed Sheeran and Gary Lightbody are fans! So we met up with Ryan McMullan while he was at Eurosonic Noorderslag and invited him onto the Gibson bus to do two beautiful acoustic sessions with us… and you won’t be disappointed!
